Candace Perry Fairer became the first student athlete in school history to win a national championship in a field event when she finished first in the long jump at the 2005 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In two seasons with the Eagles, Perry was as a four-time All-American in the long jump (two indoor and two outdoor). She also won four GLVC titles and was a four-time All-GLVC honoree. She later transferred to Indiana University for her last two seasons to compete in the long jump.
