Eagles start season with fifth-place finish

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.—The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team opened the season with a fifth-place finish, out of 18 teams, at the Ferris State University Bulldog Women's Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Katke Golf Course.

USI shot a closing round 323 after opening the two-day tournament with a 322. Junior Tara Wiley (Oxford, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with a 13-over-par 157, while sophomore Kimberly Gottwald (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) finished with an 18-over-par 162.

Wiley shot 78 on the first day and 79 in the final round as she finished in a tie for 12th while Gottwald matched Wiley's team-best 78 in the opening round before closing the tournament with an 84 to finish in at tie for 24th.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they take part in the Radisson Laker Fall Classic in Allendale, Michigan. The two-day tournament is set to be played at The Meadows Golf Club.
