Dan McDonnell is entering his first year as the Associate Director of Athletic Communication at USI and his 24th overall year with the Screaming Eagles.

A graduate of Colorado Mesa University (formerly Mesa State College), McDonnell has served in the USI Athletic Communication office since August 2000, starting as an intern before being hired in a fulltime capacity in July 2002.

While at USI, McDonnell has publicized and promoted several All-Americans and Academic All-Americans. He has served as the primary contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country/track and field, women’s golf, softball, and volleyball throughout his tenure. He also has been USI's primary contact for the GLVC Sports Network as well as the audio/visual contact for athletic events inside Screaming Eagles Arena.

McDonnell also has designed and coordinated media guides for men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and volleyball; and has designed and coordinated schedule posters, promotional posters, recruiting brochures and online promotional content for all of USI’s 19 intercollegiate sports.

In 2003, McDonnell became the Great Lakes Valley Conference SID for softball, a position he held for four years. He has worked several conference championship events during his time at USI, including the GLVC Softball Tournament since 2005.

McDonnell also has worked several national championship events, including the 2004 and 2009 NCAA II Cross Country Championships as well as the 2002 and 2012 NCAA II Men’s Basketball Elite Eight.

In addition to his duties at USI and with the GLVC, McDonnell has been the Midwest Region coordinator for women’s basketball and softball for the Division II Conference Commissioner's (formerly Daktronics) All-America program since 2006.

A native of Dolores, Colorado, McDonnell graduated from CMU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. While at CMU, McDonnell played football and worked in the sports information office. He also served as an intern at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 1999 prior to graduating from CMU.

McDonnell resides in Evansville with his wife, Marissa, and two sons, Brayden and Grayson.
