INDIANAPOLIS—The No. 36 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the University of Indianapolis Friday afternoon.

USI (9-5, 3-1 GLVC) got matching 8-5 wins at number one and two doubles to take a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Junior Diego Gimenez and sophomore Juan Quiroz combined for a win at number two doubles, while senior Joseph Boesing and sophomore Ben Boesing teamed up for a victory at number one doubles to get the Eagles the early lead.

The Screaming Eagles, who have won two straight matches and five of their last six, breezed through singles play, taking five of the six matches in straight sets. Gimenez and Quiroz were both victorious at number one and two singles, respectively, while Joseph Boesing and Ben Boesing grabbed wins at number three and four singles, respectively.

Sophomore Rodrigo Flores recorded a straight-set win at number five singles, while sophomore Robert Nieters used a 10-6 win in the third set of a super-set tiebreaker to round out the Eagles' sweep of singles play.

USI returns to action Saturday at noon when it takes on No. 41 Ferris State University in a key NCAA II Midwest Region contest between regionally-ranked teams in Romeoville, Illinois. USI finishes its GLVC regular-season schedule Sunday at 10 a.m. when it visits Lewis University in Romeoville.
