Eagles shutout Knights to get back on track

USI open GLVC play with a win
 
EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team broke a three-match losing streak by starting the 2011 GLVC schedule with a 9-0 win over Bellarmine University Friday night at Tri-State Athletic Club. USI rises to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 3-8 overall, 0-1 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles got off to a blistering start by sweeping the three doubles matches. Senior Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and junior Diego Gimenez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) began the doubles sweep at number one with a tie-breaker win, 9-7 (8-3). Sophomores Ben Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and Juan Quiroz (Valencia, Venezuela) at number two doubles and sophomores Kory Poland (Effingham, Illinois) and Rodrigo Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) at number three doubles completed the sweep with identical 8-6 wins.
 
USI continued to roll in singles play, winning all six singles matches with losing a set. Gimenez, Quiroz, Joseph Boesing, and Ben Boesing took singles matches one through four, respectively, in straight sets, while Flores and junior Nathan Lattimer (Muncie, Indiana) won pro-sets to complete the shutout.
 
The Eagles' will not continue their six-match homestand until Tuesday at  2 p.m. when they host Brescia University. USI's match with Division I Western Kentucky University, scheduled for Sunday has been postponed due to the cold weather.  The USI-WKU match will be rescheduled at a later date.
