Eagles sweep UMSL

@USI 9, Missouri-St. Louis 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team had little trouble notching its fourth victory of the season Friday as the Screaming Eagles topped the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 9-0, at the USI Tennis Courts.

USI (4-3, 2-2 GLVC) defeated the Riverwomen, 8-3, in number one doubles 8-2, in number two doubles and 8-1, in number three doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles finished the contest by winning all six singles matches in straight sets to pick up their third consecutive victory.

Ashley Rees

Senior Ashley Rees's (Vincennes, Indiana) inched closer to the 50-win plateau in singles play with her 6-0, 6-0 victory over UMSL's Christine Bronson at number two singles. Rees, who has 47 career singles victories, also teamed with junior Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) to pick up the 8-3 victory at number one doubles.

Rees also is just eight singles and/or doubles victories away from her 100th career combined victory. She needs 10 singles victories and 13 combined victories to tie former USI standout Emily Blizinger for first all-time at USI in both categories.

USI finishes its GLVC schedule Saturday with a 9 a.m. match against Quincy University at the USI Tennis Courts.
