EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Oakland City University Thursday at the USI Tennis Courts. The Screaming Eagles improve to 5-1 with the victory, while the Lady Oaks fall to 0-3 with the loss.
Sophomore Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) improved to 5-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in her first career match at number one singles. Junior Cassy Froderman (Brazil, Indiana) also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two singles to raise her record to 4-2.
Freshman Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) won in straight sets to improve to 5-1, while freshman Emily Eubank (Paoli, Indiana) earned her first collegiate victory with a 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 victory at four singles.
The team of junior Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Sara Wilhoite (Connersville, Indiana) improved to 4-1 with their 8-0 victory at number one doubles. Senior Kalie Ackerman(Allendale, Illinois) and freshman Reilly Ackerman (Allendale, Illinois) also picked up an 8-0 victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.
OCU brought just four players, giving the Eagles default victories at three doubles as well as five and six singles.
The Eagles will return to action Friday and Saturday when the compete in the Aces Fall Classic in Evansville. They return to team action September 29 when they take on the University of Indianapolis.
