Senior number one singles/doubles player Emily Blinzinger (Oakland City, Indiana) broke the school record for career doubles victories Tuesday afternoon as the University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team cruised past Kentucky Wesleyan College, 9-0, at the USI Tennis Courts in Evansville, Indiana.
Blinzinger, along with freshman Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana), helped get the Screaming Eagles off on the right foot with their number one doubles victory. USI swept the doubles action, winning each match 8-0.
The Eagles did not let up in singles play as they swept five matches and took the sixth by default. Despite changing up its regular lineup, the USI dominated single action, winning each match in straight sets.
Blinzinger, who has a career doubles record of 42-21, holds the school record for most singles victories (51) and combined victories (93).
The win improves USI to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. It also wraps up the second seed for the Eagles in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.
USI will host Northern Kentucky University in their Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season finale this Thursday, September 26. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start on the USI Tennis Courts.
