EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Swimming and Diving team landed four athletes on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District team for NCAA Division I.
This year's awards mark the second for each of the Screaming Eagles named to the list. Senior
Lane Pollock and juniors
Nathan Deputy,
Joey Smith, and
Sam Smith all played vital roles in the team's success in the pool and classroom this season.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Award, the student-athlete must possess a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) as an undergraduate and graduate (if applicable). They must have reached a sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution. Eligible nominees must compete in four competitions or finish top eight at a conference championship meet.
Pollock, a finance major, finished out his collegiate career this season, finishing in the top five in both the one and three-meter at the Summit League Championships, qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, and shattering the one-meter school record. The senior became the first Eagle to break 300 points when he set the new school record in the one-meter on Senior Day against the University of Evansville with a score of 309.83. Pollock was named to the Summit League Academic All-League for maintaining a GPA above 3.3 during his career.
Deputy, a sport management major, broke a school record, finished in the A-Finals of the Summit League Championships, and qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in his junior season. He scored a massive 333.05 points in the three-meter dive in the home meet against Evansville, moving his way to the top of the school record board. This score qualified him for the NCAA Zones meet, a program first.
Joey Smith, a computer science major, broke several school records individually and on relay teams throughout the season. At the 2025 House of Champions meet in Indianapolis, Smith set new records in the 100 and 200 freestyle events, both earning top-20 finishes. Along with his relay team,
Jude Winnington,
Stokes Knight, and
Sam Smith, he set a new record in the 200 free relay twice throughout the season, at the House of Champions meet, and finally at the Summit League Conference Championships (1:21.96). Smith was also on the record-setting 400 medley relay team and 400 freestyle team.
Sam Smith, an accounting and professional services major, finished his junior season with six school records and a Summit League Championship in the 200-meter butterfly. The junior was a part of relay teams that set school records in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, and 400 medley races this season. At the Summit League Championships to end the season, Smith broke his own record in the 100 butterfly to grab a 10
th-place finish. In the final day of the conference championships, the junior became the first Screaming Eagle to win a conference championship by swimming a school record time of 1:47.77. Smith also joined Pollock on the Summit League Academic All-League for maintaining a GPA above 3.3 during his career.
