EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana Women's Track & Field got a huge scoring boost in the 3,000 meters Saturday as the Screaming Eagles finished seventh at the SIUE Cougar Classic.
USI got 16 of its 32 team points in the 3,000 meters as sophomore
Cordelia Hoover led the way for the Screaming Eagles with eight thanks to her second-place finish in the event. Freshmen
Ava Rau and
Adara Austin were third and fifth, respectively, to add 10 more points to USI's tally.
Freshman
Lilyanna Blais added five points with a fourth-place showing in the 1,500 meters, while sophomore
Maggie Smith and freshman
Charlee Gibson were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 800 meters to give USI four more points.
Gibson also helped USI's 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish, which garnered another five points. She was joined by sophomores
Lauryn Speicher and
Emma Deweese as well as fellow freshman
Alyssa Beyer.
The Screaming Eagles return to action Apri 16-18 when they compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
