EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Swimming and Diving hosts crosstown foe the University of Evansville Saturday afternoon at the USI Aquatic Center. The team will be celebrating the senior class an hour before the meet begins.
Saturday's meet marks the third time this season that the two programs have faced off. They first met at the tri-meet hosted by Indiana University Indianapolis on October 18 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The programs split the first meeting with the Screaming Eagles taking a 181-105 victory on the women's side, but the Purple Aces came out on top 153-144 in the men's matchup.
A week later, the two teams faced off for the second time. In the matchup, the Eagles took home both sides. The women earned a massive 161-134 win, while the men took home a dominant 172-126 victory.
Evansville is coming off a victory over Eastern Illinois University on January 17. The Women earned their first victory of the year, 143-114 over the Panthers, while the men squeaked out a win, 136-126.
Men's
Last time out, USI picked up a 159-140 win over the University of Illinois Chicago at the USI Aquatic Center. The Eagles picked up nine heat victories, helping the team earn its second victory of the season.
The first event win came in the 200 medley relay, where freshmen
Jarrett Watkins and
Jerrin Dale, along with juniors
Sam Smith and
Joey Smith, raced to a time of 1:33.17. Freshman
Garrett Gabhart took the second event win for the Eagles in the 50 backstroke (24.17).
S. Smith and sophomore
Jude Winnington took the top two spots in the 100-butterfly race. Winnington added even more points to the board, winning the 100 individual medley with a 52.21 time.
On the boards, Senior
Lane Pollock secured a third-place win against strong UIC competition in both the one and three-meter dives today. He scored 278.25 on the one-meter, followed by a 293.48 on the three-meter.
Women's
The women dropped their last meet against the Flames, 220-77, on January 10 at the USI Aquatic Center. Sophomore
Emma Gabhart recorded the team's lone heat victories, winning both the 50 (31.51) and 100 (1:07.47) breaststroke.
Gabhart was a member of the second-place 200 freestyle relay that recorded a 1:40.62 time. The team consisted of Gabhart, freshman
Hannah Pryor, sophomore
Elizabeth Ketcham, and sophomore
Simone Green.
Sophomore
Anna Bunnell earned a team-high second-place finish in the one-meter dive, recording a 238.88 score. Bunnell also finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 230.25, three points behind teammate sophomore
Gabbie Meier, who finished third with 233.70 points.
