Women's Golf freshman trio honored by WGCA

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Women's Golf had three athletes named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholars list Monday morning for their work in the classroom.

The Screaming Eagle's freshman trio of Fernanda Vera, Jade Blakeley, and Zhana Navato completed the year with at least a 3.50 grade point average, while also participating in 50 percent of the team's rounds throughout the season.

Vera, a business administration major, competed in every tournament during her freshman season, averaging an 81.30 round score. She shot a season-low round of 72 at the Butler Fall Invitational. Her season wrapped up with an invitation to the PGA Works Collegiate Championship.

Blakely, a criminal justice major, finished her freshman campaign fourth on the team with an average round score of 82.67 over her 18 rounds. She had a season-low single-round score of 76, and a season-low 54-hole score, of 237, at the Butler Fall Invitational.

Navato, a political science major, shot a team-low round of 71 at the Butler Fall Invitational, slotting her in at fifth all-time on the USI leaderboard. She scored a 36-hole low of 158 in a 14th-place finish at the Braun Intercollegiate. The freshman topped the Eagle's scorecard with a 248 54-hole score at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship.
