INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Men's Track & Field sophomore
Alex Nolan accounted for 18 total points to lead the Screaming Eagles to a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships Tuesday and Wednesday.
Nolan had a thrilling win in the 5,000 meters Tuesday afternoon before finishing second in the 3,000 meters Wednesday. His win in the 5,000 meters was a near photo-finish as he clocked a time of 14 minutes, 42.42 seconds, just 0.14 seconds ahead of Southeast Missouri State University's Noah Little.
In addition to Austin, the Eagles had three podium finishes as the distance medley relay team of freshman
Griffen Wheeler, sophomores
Cole Hess and
Eli Mojonnier and junior
Isaac Stanford placed third on Tuesday.
Stanford also carded a fourth-place finish in the mile, while Hess was fifth in the finals of the 800 meters.
USI also got scoring performances out of freshman
Layden Wagoner, who was seventh in the 3,000 meters, and the quartet of Wheeler, Hess, Mojonnier and Stanford, which was sixth in 4x400-meter relay with a school-record time of 3:26.59.
The Eagles, who finished with 38 points, open the 2025 outdoor season March 27-29 with meets scheduled at the Raleigh Relays March 27-29 in Raleigh, North Carolina, the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis March 27-28, and the Pacesetter Sports Invitational March 29 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
