BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Red-shirt freshman
Wylee Kippenbrock set a rookie record in the 800 meters as University of Southern Indiana Men's Track & Field concluded the regular-season Friday at the Billy Hayes Invitational by racking up four top five finishes and seven top 10 placements.
Junior
Ryan Luitjohan recorded the Screaming Eagles' top finish on the night as he crossed the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in third place with a personal-best time of 10 minutes, 14.34 seconds.
Freshman
Kraedyn Young was fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:45.48, while Kippenbrock and sophomore
Griffen Wheeler were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the college division of the 800 meters.
Kippenbrock finished his race in 1:52.33, surpassing USI's freshman record of 1:53.04, which was set by Wheeler at the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational. Wheeler finished Friday night's race in 1:52.35.
The Screaming Eagles top 800 performance on the day came from junior
Cole Hess, who was 14th in the invite with a team-best time of 1:51.61.
Junior
Mukal Verma as well as sophomores
Andrew Smith and
Jackson Collman were respectively fifth, seventh and eighth in the 3,000 meters to round out USI's top finishes.
USI returns to action May 14-16 when it competes at the 2026 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Little Rock, Arkansas.
