INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Swimming and Diving finished eighth out of 12 teams in the House of Champions meet hosted by Indiana University Indianapolis in a three-day meet that ended Saturday night. The Screaming Eagles broke a dozen program records, with seven top 10 finishes.
Each event featured prelims in the morning to qualify for the championship finals, consolation finals, C finals, or D finals in the evening slate, where points were awarded to the teams. The athletes could earn points for their universities in each final, ranging from 45 points at the top of the championship finals to two points at the bottom of D finals.
The team finished with 939 points at the end of the three days, 426 points behind the seventh-place University of Illinois Chicago, and 83 points ahead of ninth-place Lewis University.
The Screaming Eagles opened the first day with 267 points, led by six broken records. Sophomore
Jude Winnington kicked things off by swimming a 1:51.21 in the 200 individual medley, placed 17
th, and broke the school record. Next up was junior
Joey Smith, who broke the first of many records in his meet in the 50 free event, with a time of 20.53, a record that was recently set by teammate
Stokes Knight in the meet in October at the University of Evansville.
Later on in the first day in Indianapolis, senior
Lane Pollock added to the record-breaking in the one-meter dive, scoring 264.15, getting him 10
th place for 28 points added for the team.
In the first of the relay records set was the 200 free, when the team placed eighth with a time of 1:22.02, smashing the previous school record by nearly two seconds. On the relay were juniors Smith and
Sam Smith, and sophomores Knight and Winnington. The 400 medley team also set a record in their sixth-place race, swimming 3:19.08, grabbing 72 points for the team.
In the first session on day two, the men tallied two more records. First, J. Smith took home a top 20 finish in the 200 free, setting the record with a time of 1:40.47. Then freshman
Jerrin Dale swam for 11
th place (55.45) in the 100 breaststroke.
The second half of day two brought two more record-breaking events for the Eagles. The 200 medley relay team tabbed a seventh-place finish, for 70 points added to the board with a time of 1:30.82, swam by freshman
Jarrett Watkins, Dale, S. Smith, and J. Smith. Watkins added nine points to the first-day totals with a program record in the 100 backstroke event, swimming 50.60.
The third and final day was marked with four more broken records for the Eagles. In the 100 free event, J. Smith took a 15th-place finish with a program record time of 45.18, inching out the previous record by .38 seconds. Dale added another top 20 finish to his meet by placing 16
th in the 200 breaststroke, with a school record of 2:03.15. Winnington came in 13
th in the 100 individual medley with a program record time of 51.99.
To round out the relay records, the 400 free relay team added their names to the record book with a 10th-place finish, swimming 3:04.90. Senior

The Eagles are back in action beginning on December 3 at the Toyota U.S. Open in Austin, Texas, hosted by the University of Texas. The competition will take place over three days, finishing on December 6.
