EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Swimming and Diving heads west to compete in the highly anticipated three-day A3 Performance Invitational on Thursday, November 14, through Saturday, November 16 at Shea Natarium. The meet is hosted by Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
The trip marks the third straight year for the Screaming Eagles. Similar opponents in previous years return including Eastern Illinois University (Summit League Opponent), University of Evansville, Bellarmine University, University of Nebraska at Omaha (Summit League Opponent), Indiana State University (Diving Only), SIU, and USI.
The Salukis have defended their home pool on both sides, winning the event in both 2022 and 2023. The USI men placed sixth in 2022 and fifth in 2023 out of six schools making a 147-point improvement in 2023. The women placed fifth in 2022 out of six teams, also placing fifth in 2023 out of eight squads improving by 11 points.
Thursday's opening day events include prelims for the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, and one-meter dive starting at 10 a.m. The meets resumes at 5 p.m. with the finals in the 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, and 400 Medley Relay.
Friday's prelims include the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay (Timed Final), and the three-meter dive. Friday nights finals at 5 p.m. include 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Backstroke.
Saturday's prelims include the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 1650 Freestyle events. The finals at 4 p.m. are the 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Freestyle Relay.
Men
The men's early season momentum was stalled by losses against common A3 Performance Invitational opponents Bellarmine (88-206) and Evansville (83.5-152.5). The men have shattered four individual records on the season, including two from dive and two from swim. Freshman
Jude Winnington captured the 400 IM (4:12.46) record against Valparaiso University.
Junior
Lane Pollock and sophomore
Nathan Deputy have shinned this season battling for personal and school bests. Deputy recently demolished his own record against Evansville in the three-meter dive event with a score of 278.33. Pollock's offseason work-ethic has paid dividends posting impressive one-meter scores. The junior smashed the school record in the event against Valpo with a score of 273.38.
Women
The women have collected three wins this fall, highlighted by their programs first victory over Evansville in their last meet, 137-99. USI and Bellarmine have also met this season resulting in a narrow Eagles loss, 141-153.
USI has shattered three different individual record to this point. Freshman
Elizabeth Ketcham earned the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a blazing time (57.71). Freshman
Anna Bunnell leads the Eagles diving squad breaking both the one-meter (226.88) and the three-meter (238.05) records.
Sophomore
Reagan Holmes, sophomore
Caiya Cooper, freshman
Simone Green, and Ketcham snatched the 200 Freestyle Relay record (1:39.21) against Bellarmine. Ketcham leads the team and event bests with the top time in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle relay split, 50 backstroke relay split, and 50 butterfly split.
