EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana Men's Track & Field senior distance runner
Noah Hufnagel (Santa Claus, Indiana) made some more history Thursday night as he became the first Screaming Eagle to win an Ohio Valley Conference outdoor title.
Hufnagel raced to a first-place finish in the 10,000 meters on the opening day of the OVC Outdoor Championships, finishing the event in 31 minutes, 0.10 seconds on a humid evening at SIU Edwardsville's Ralph Korte Stadium.
The win marked the third OVC title of the 2022-23 academic year for Hufnagel, who was victorious on the grass at the OVC Cross Country Championships as well as the 5,000 meters at the OVC Indoor Championships. His effort has the Eagles sitting in fifth-place with 10 points after the opening night.
USI's women are in seventh-place thanks to the three points junior distance runner
Aubrey Swart (Noblesville, Indiana) picked up for her sixth-place effort in the 10,000 meters. Freshman
Micah Peals (Terre Haute, Indiana) just missed out on adding to the Eagles' total as she finished ninth in the women's 10,000 meters.
Senior
Josh Kaminski (Lafayette, Indiana) also missed out on a scoring opportunity by just one spot in the men's javelin despite a personal-best throw of 150 feet, 8.00 inches (45.94m). Fellow classmate
Gabrielle McGregor (Louisville, Kentucky) also recorded a personal-best on the opening day of competition as she finished 13th in the women's discus with a toss of 122 feet, 1.00 inches (37.23m), which was 15 feet better than her previous personal best.
The Eagles return to the track Friday for day two of the OVC Outdoor Championships. ESPN Plus coverage begins at 5:25 p.m. (CDT), while Saturday's final day of competition will be aired live on ESPN Plus starting at 12:25 p.m.
