EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team clinched their first conference win of the season, a 9-0 home stand over McKendree University over the weekend on senior day.
The Eagles (9-11, 1-2 GLVC) started things off at the USI Tennis Courts with a 8-2 win at number one doubles with senior
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and sophomore
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana). At number two doubles, the duo of senior
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and freshman
Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) captured yet another win 8-5.
Sophomore
Alex Jamison (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) and freshman
Anna McDonald (Tallhassee, Florida) won by default at number three doubles as well as in the singles competition.
Hambrock then defeated her opponent at number one singles 8-0 in pro sets. Shipman then followed up at number two singles with an 8-0 win of her own. Mizikar and McDonald then secured the win for USI with scores of 8-2 and 8-5.
USI will travel to Indianapolis for their next match on Friday, April 13 at 2 p.m. for a showdown with the University of Indianapolis.
