EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team capped off a 9-0 win over Oakland City University on Thursday.
The Eagles (8-11, 0-2 GLVC) swept the doubles competition starting with senior
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and sophomore
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) winning 8-0. Following suit was the pair of senior
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and sophomore
Alex Jamison (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) taking the victory 8-0 as well. The final doubles win came with freshman
Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman
Anna McDonald (Tallahassee, Florida) who secured the 8-0 win.
The momentum for USI kept rolling into the singles competition where Hambrock kicked things off with a 6-0, 6-0 route. Shipman and McDonald continued raking in the wins for the Eagles with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 feats. Thompson came next for USI as the Eagles shut out the rest of their opponents 6-0, 6-0 with Mizikar and junior
Elizabeth Boik (Newburgh, Indiana) securing the Eagles' victory.
A conference showdown in Evansville is what awaits for USI as they welcome McKendree University to town on Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m.
