EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team split their weekend with an 8-1 win over Indiana University-Southeast and a 8-1 loss to Bellarmine University.
USI vs. IUS
The Eagles (7-11, 0-2 GLVC) first secured a victory over the Grenadiers kicking things off with the duo of senior
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and freshman
Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) winning 8-5 at number three doubles. Next came freshman
Anna McDonald (Tallahassee, Florida) and sophomore
Alex Jamison (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) at number two doubles winning 8-6.
In the singles competition, sophomore
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) started with a win at number one singles 6-1, 6-3. Jamison came next at number four singles securing a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over her opponent. Thompson and Mizikar then followed up at number six and five singles with 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-3 victories. McDonald nabbed another USI win at number three singles 6-3, 6-2. The final Eagles victory emerged at the number two spot with senior
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) rounding out the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
USI vs. BU
Next came the Knights of Bellarmine for the Eagles with another conference set. Mizikar came away as the lone USI victor after her opponent retired.
USI will be on the road for their next match on Tuesday, April 3 at 1 p.m. in St Louis, Missouri with the University of Missouri-St Louis.
