EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team took a 9-0 sweep away from regional rival,Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday.
USI (1-0) started off the competition in doubles where the sophomore
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) and senior
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) took a perfect 8-0 set over their opponents. The other duos of freshman
Anna McDonald (Tallahasee, Florida) and sophomore
Alex Jamison (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) along with freshman
Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) and junior
Elizabeth Boik (Newburgh, Indiana) also took victories in their matches, 8-1, in two and three doubles, respectively.
In the singles competition, Hambrock, McDonald, and Jamison started with a 6-0, 6-0 decision in their matches. Shipman took another straight-set victory after a 6-0, 6-2 win while Thompson won in 6-3, 6-1. Boik rounded out the Eagles' singles scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 win over the Panthers (1-1).
The Eagles will be back in action on September 22-23 for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Midland, Michigan.
