SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team was edged out 5-4 by Illinois Springfield on Saturday in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener in Springfield, Illinois.
Freshmen
Alex Jamison (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) each picked up a pair of wins for the Screaming Eagles. Jamison picked up an easy in at number five singles, 6-1, 6-1. Hambrock had little trouble at number two as well, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Jamison teamed up with junior
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) at number three doubles for an 8-2 win while Hambrock paired up with senior
Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) at number two for an 8-6 win.
The Eagles have a nonconference matchup with Lindenwood University-Belleville on Friday at 4 p.m. in Belleville, Illinois, before resuming conference play Saturday at McKendree.
