EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team was swept 9-0 by No. 47 Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon at Wesselman Park.
Although swept in doubles, the Screaming Eagles were competitive in all three matches. At number one, junior
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and senior
Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana) fell 8-6, while freshman
Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) and senior
Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) were topped at number two 8-5.
In singles, Brannon battled at number four, but was defeated 6-4, 6-3. It was a back-and-forth battle at number one, as Shipman split the first two sets, 2-6, 7-5. In the third set tiebreaker, she came up just short, falling 11-9.
The Eagles begin GLVC play tomorrow when they visit Illinois Springfield. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
