EVANSVILLE, Ind.-- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team defeated McKendree University, 9-0, Friday afternoon at the Evansville Tennis Center. The Screaming Eagles move to 6-8 on the year in dual matches and 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition with their third straight victory.
The Eagles made quick work of the Bearcats in doubles competition led by senior
Elizabeth Wilm (Evansville, Indiana) and junior
Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana). The dup earned a win at number-one, 8-1, to improve their record to 9-5 on the year. Getting their third straight win at number-two doubles, sophomore
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and
Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) earned an 8-2 win to send the match to singles play.
All six Eagles earned two wins in the competition, starting with Wu getting the first win in singles play. At number-three, the junior earned a 6-3, 6-2 win. Later in the match, a pair of sophomores in
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and
Haley Jones (Fort Branch, Indiana) earned wins at numbers five and six to close the match. Mizikar won 6-1, 6-2 while Jones finished her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
The Eagles will host the final non-conference game of their schedule tomorrow afternoon when Indiana Wesleyan makes the trip to Evansville. The match will be played at the Evansville Tennis Center and will start at 2 p.m.
