Eagles Fall Despite Impressive Doubles Play

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team was defeated by the Florida Institute of Technology, 8-1, Wednesday afternoon in Melbourne, Florida. The Screaming Eagles move to 2-7 on the year with the loss.

The Eagles fought well against the tough Panther doubles teams. Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) picked up a convincing 8-3 win at number two doubles for the lone USI win of the contest. Brannon, also, competed well in her singles match despite the 6-2, 6-3 loss. At number three doubles, the duo of Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and Haley Jones (Fort Branch, Indiana) forced a long set before eventually falling, 9-8.

USI concludes their spring break trip tomorrow in Cocoa Beach where they will take on Bloomsburg University. The Huskies were swept by Walsh University, 9-0, earlier in the week. USI and Bloomsburg get their match started at 10 a.m.
