COCOA BEACH, Fla.- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team was defeated by Saginaw Valley State University, 9-0, Tuesday Morning in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Screaming Eagles move to 2-6 on the year with the loss. USI has two more matches, Wednesday and Thursday, remaining in their spring break trip.
The Eagles struggled in doubles play losing all three matches, which began at ten o'clock. The duo of
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and
Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) put up a fight at number two doubles before eventually falling by a score of 8-4.
Elizabeth Wilm (Evansville, Indiana) came close to getting a win at number one singles. The senior forced a tiebreak in the first set but eventually fell 7-6 (7-1) and dropped the second set, 6-4. The
Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana) dropped her first set at number three singles before recovering with a 6-2 victory in the second set. Wu would drop the third set tiebreaker, 6-1, in the match that sealed the victory for Saginaw Valley.
USI has two more matches to conclude their spring break trip to Florida. Tomorrow, USI will then travel to Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida for an afternoon match up at 12:30 p.m. The Eagles end their trip back in Cocoa Beach taking on Bloomsburg University on Thursday.
