Shipman earns GLVC Player of Week award

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana freshman Kesley Shipman (Olney, Illinois) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday in an announcement by the league office.

Shipman went a combined 6-0 to lead the Screaming Eagles to three NCAA II Midwest Region victories, including a pair of GLVC road wins this past week.

After claiming straight-set wins at No. 3 singles in USI's wins over Kentucky Wesleyan College and Saint Joseph's College, Shipman clinched a crucial victory for the Eagles against McKendree University Saturday afternoon. Shipman rallied from a one-set deficit at No. 5 singles to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over McKendree's Sara Janulavich to give USI a 5-4 win and put the Eagles in GLVC Tournament contention.

In doubles play, Shipman paired with two different players to post a 3-0 mark at No. 2 doubles.

For the season, Shipman is a combined 26-18 on the year, including 13-9 in singles play and 13-9 in doubles competition. She is 12-7 in dual competition, while boasting the same mark in doubles play.

Shipman is the first USI women's tennis player in school history to garner GLVC Player of the Week honors.

USI, which is 12-7 overall and 2-3 in GLVC play, concludes the regular season this week with matches against Indiana University Southeast and the University of Illinois Springfield.
