EVANSVILLE, Ind.---The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team slipped by Lindenwood University, 5-4, to secure their first victory of the spring season on Saturday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center. The visiting Lions fall to 1-1 overall, while the Screaming Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season.
USI opened with a 2-1 advantage after doubles competition, as juniors
Elizabeth Wilm (Evansville, Indiana) and
Elizabeth Skinner (Paducah, Kentucky) and freshman
Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and sophomore
Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) each earned 9-7 victories at number two and three doubles, respectively.
The Eagles clinched the match with straight-set conquests at number one, three, and six singles. In the final match of the contest, freshman
Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) slammed the door on the Lions with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at number six singles.
USI will return to the Evansville Tennis Center Saturday, February 28 for a 5:30 p.m. match against Lindenwood University-Belleville.
