Eagles look to finish homestand on track
 
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team looks to finish its longest homestand of the year on track when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Lewis University Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Strassweg Field.  Game coverage for the second half of the four-game homestand, including live stats and video, is available at gousieagles.com.
 
Week 4 Eagle Notes:
 
Eagles go 1-1-0 to start homestand. USI (2-3-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) was 1-1-0 to start the four-game homestand, falling to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1-0, and defeating Maryville University, 5-1.
 
USI snaps offensive slump. The Screaming Eagles snapped its offensive slump with a five-goal explosion against Maryville University. USI junior midfielder Josh Weinzapfel (Evansville, Indiana) scored the Eagles' first goal in four games (413 minutes) before assisting on a pair of goals by freshman forward Braiden Acton (Evansville, Indiana). Sophomore forward Steve Sokol (Perth Australia) finished out the Eagles' offensive surge with the fourth and fifth goals.
 
Eagles in the GLVC. USI is 1-2-1 in the GLVC and tied for eighth through the first four conference games of 2014. The Eagles are slightly ahead of last year's pace when they were 1-3-0 through four GLVC matches.
 
Bruder was tough in goal. Junior goalkeeper Auston Bruder (Evansville, Indiana) has been tough in goal for the Eagles through the last three games. Bruder has a 0.33 goals against average after allowing only one goal through the last 275 minutes of action.
 
Santoro is in his sixth year. USI Head Coach Mat Santoro has a 40-46-7 overall record at USI, but is 20-17-4 in the last three seasons.
 
Eagles hope to get GLVC-best 11th conference title in 2014. USI has a GLVC-best 10 conference championships in men's soccer since 1979. The Eagles also are looking for their first league title since 1991.
 
USI looks to extend winning-streak with UW-Parkside. The Eagles start this week's action looking to extend its four-game winning streak over the Rangers of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (2-4-0, 0-4-0 GLVC). USI also has won five of the last six meetings, but UW-Parkside leads the all-time series, 15-9-1.
 
Eagles hopes to out fly the Flyers. USI hopes to get over the top against Lewis University (4-1-1, 3-0-1 GLVC) Friday after tying the Flyers last year in Romeoville, Illinois. The Eagles are .500 against the Flyers the last five years (2-2-1), but Lewis holds the all-time series lead, 22-19-1.
