USI opens 2014-15 with a regional win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team began the 2014-15 schedule with a 6-3 regional victory over Cedarville University Saturday at the USI Tennis Courts. USI starts the year 1-0, while Cedarville begins the year 0-1.
 
The Screaming Eagles got off to a good start in the match taking two of the three doubles matches. Junior Elizabeth Skinner (Paducah, Kentucky) and freshman Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) picked up an 8-6 victory at number two doubles, while freshman Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and sophomore Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana) posted an 8-1 win at number three doubles.
 
In singles, USI and Cedarville split the six singles matches with freshman Ashlee Hasson (Columbus, Indiana) winning the deciding match at number one in straight-sets, 6-2 and 6-1. The Eagles also collected straight-set wins by Skinner at number three singles, 6-2 and 6-2; Wu at number five singles, 6-1 and 6-2; and Shipman at number six, 6-1 and 6-0.


The fall non-conference schedule continues September 26-27 when USI and the University of Evansville host the USI-UE Invitational at the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville.
