PhotosNOBLESVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team shot a final-round 328 Tuesday to finish ninth out of nine teams at the NCAA II Super-Regional #1.
USI concluded the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a final score of 986, six strokes behind Drury University for eighth-place, after shooting 329 in each of the first two rounds.
Senior
Taylor Merriss led the Screaming Eagles with a three round total of 235 (76-78-81). Merriss, who finished in a tie for eighth in the 49-player field, was in position for a berth in the NCAA II Championships after two days, but faltered with an 81 in the final round Tuesday to miss the NCAA II Championships by two strokes. Merriss's three-day 235 put the senior 14 strokes behind individual medalist Kelly Hartigan of Grand Valley State University.
Sophomore
Anastasia Carter finished 27th with a 54-hole score of 245 (80-84-81). Carter finished the tournament with an 81 on the final day, propelling her up four spots after sitting in 31st after the through 36 holes.
Senior
Kaelyn Lingenfelter finished in a tie for 30th after shooting a third-round 82 to end the tournament with a three-day total of 247 (84-81-82).
Grand Valley State University (307-306-322) and the University of Indianapolis (310-311-314) finished in a tie for the team title after each recorded a final score of 935. Grand Valley State led Indianapolis by eight strokes after two rounds, but the Greyhounds fired a 314 on the final day to force a tie.
USI concludes its 2013-14 season after finishing second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships and advancing to the NCAA II Tournament for the ninth time in program history—all since 2004. The Eagles have had a team or an individual appear in the NCAA II Tournament in each of the last 12 seasons.
