USI ResultsNOBLESVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team shot an opening-round 329 Sunday and finds itself in sixth-place out of nine teams through 18 holes of the 54-hole NCAA II Super Regional #1.
Senior
Taylor Merriss shot a four-over-par 76 to lead the Screaming Eagles, who are 10 strokes out of third-place, a position that would advance them into the NCAA II National Championship.
Merriss was three under early in the round after posting birdies on each of the first three holes. After posting a pair of bogeys and two double bogies on the back nine, Merriss finished her round with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole to go into the clubhouse in a tie for third in the 49-player field.
Sophomore
Anastasia Carter, the Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, aided the Eagles with an 80. Carter was two-over at the turn, but four bogies and a triple-bogey on the back nine moved her into a tie for 15th.
Grand Valley State University finished the opening day with a tournament-best 307, while Grand Valley State's Kelly Hartigan shot a two-under-par 70 to grab the 18-hole lead.
The NCAA II Super Regional #1 continues with the second round Monday at the Purgatory Golf Club in in Noblesville, Indiana.
