EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team saw its post-season hopes slip away Saturday as the Screaming Eagles suffered a 6-3 loss to visiting McKendree University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at the USI Tennis Courts.

Senior Shannon Joyce and freshman Miranda Camp earned a 9-8 (7-3) win at No. 3 doubles, but USI suffered a pair of 8-2 setbacks at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles as it went into singles play facing a one-match deficit.

The Screaming Eagles (6-12, 1-4 GLVC) suffered straight-set losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but wins by freshman Brenna Wu and sophomore Elizabeth Skinner at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, closed the gap.

McKendree (15-3, 2-2 GLVC), however, earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to close the door on USI's comeback attempt.

USI returns to action Sunday at 3 p.m. when it hosts NCAA Division I foe University of Northern Iowa at the USI Tennis Courts. The Eagles also host the University of Evansville Wednesday at 3 p.m. before closing out its regular-season GLVC slate next Saturday when they host the University of Illinois Springfield for Senior Day.
