Taylor Merriss recorded a third-place finish as the women's golf team placed fifth at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Triton Spring Invitational Monday.
Merriss began the tournament with a seven-over-par 77 Sunday and was tied for fifth after the first 18 holes. She concluded the two-day, 36-hole event with an 83 Monday and a final score of 160, which was good enough to tie for third in the 84-player field.

Kaelyn Lingenfelter and freshman
Allison Koester rounded out USI's top-20 finishers, tying for 13th and 18th, respectively. Lingenfelter fired a first round 81 and followed up with a second round 84 for a tournament total of 165. Koester, who was competing as an individual, shot a first day and 82 and a second round 84 to finish the tournament with a 166.
As a team, the Eagles shot 330 through the first 18 holes and trailed fifth-place Lewis University by just one shot at the midway-point. USI finished the tournament with a 335 and a final tally of 665. UMSL captured the team title after shooting 310 and 337, respectively, for a final score of 647. UMSL's Bailey Hopper was the individual medalist after finishing with a 14-over-par 154 (75-79).
USI is next in action at the GLVC Championship April 26-27 in Waterloo, Illinois.
