LAS VEGAS, Nev.—The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team recorded a 36-hole score of 662 to finish seventh out of 14 teams at the High Desert Classic. The tournament was held on the Desert Course at Palute Golf Club-Sun Mountain.
 
USI, which opened its spring season Sunday, shot 335 in the first 18 holes before rebounding Monday with a team-total of 327 to improve its finish.
 
Senior Taylor Merriss (Evansville, IN) and sophomore Anastasia Carter (Granger, IN) paced the Screaming Eagles. Merriss tied for sixth in the 75-player field after shooting a five-over-par 77 in the first round and an eight-over-par 80 in the final round for a 36-hole score of 157. Carter tied for 19th after rebounding from a first-day 86 with a four-over-par 76 on the second day and a two round total of 162.
 
Tarleton State University won the tournament with a two-round score of 612. USI finished just eight strokes back of the University of Missouri-St. Louis for fourth place and just 14 strokes behind second place Colorado State University-Pueblo.
 
Tarleton State also won the individual tournament as Isabell Jimenez-Perea shot a five-over 149 (77-72) for the tournament.
 
USI returns to action during spring break when they compete against Gettysburg College in a scrimmage in Port St. Lucie, Florida March 8-15.
