PERRY PARK, Ky.—University of Southern Indiana women's golf senior Taylor Merriss broke the program's 54-hole record by three strokes this weekend to lead the Screaming Eagles to a ninth-place finish in the 23-team Perry Park Spring Fling.

Merriss opened the tournament Saturday by shooting a two-over-par 74 to go into the clubhouse with the 18-hole tournament lead. She shot 76 in the second round Sunday morning before concluding the tournament later in the day with an 80 and 54-hole score of 230.

She finished in a tie for sixth in the 135-player field, just five strokes off the winning pace set by The University of Findlay's Kasey Petty, the University of Indianapolis's Jenny Konop, and Grand Valley State University's Gabrielle Shipley.

Senior Kaelyn Lingenfelter was 42nd with a three-round score of 244 (82-84-78), while sophomore Anastasia Carter tied for 43rd with a 245 (80-83-82).

As a team, the Eagles shot 973 (318-329-326), five strokes behind eighth-place Findlay. Grand Valley State shot 926 to capture the team title.

USI is currently competing at the Bellarmine University Invitational at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky.
