EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team took second at the Screaming Eagle Golf Classic held at Cambridge Golf Course in Evansville, Indiana. The 13th-annual tournament was hosted by USI at Cambridge for the eigth-straight year.
USI finished the two-day tournament with a 619 (312-307), 11 strokes off the pace set by tournament-winning University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds posted a 608 (300-308). The second-place team finish was the Eagles' best in the tournament since 2007.
The Screaming Eagles were in third after the first round, but improved by five strokes to pass the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the standings in the second round.
USI was led by senior Taylor Merriss (Evansville, IN), who finished fourth with a two-day 150 (77-73). A second-round 73 was a career-best for Merriss. Freshman Anastasia Carter (Granger, IN) followed Merriss by placing 5th with a 152 (77-75).
The Eagles are next in action Sunday and Monday in the UIndy Fall Invitational at Heartland Crossing Golf Links in Camby, Indiana.
