PANA, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana senior women's golfer
Kaelyn Lingenfelter tied for eighth out of 75 competitors to lead the Screaming Eagles to a third-place finish this weekend at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Triton Invitational at the Oak Terrace Resort & Spa.
After shooting 85 Saturday to open the two-day, 36-hole event, Lingenfelter roared back in the final 18 holes with a one-over-par 73 and a two-day score of 158. Her 73 was the top mark in the field in Sunday's closing round and was the second-best 18-hole score of the tournament—Cardinal Stritch University's Courtney Cobb had a 71 Saturday.
As a team, the Eagles finished with a two-day score of 641 after concluding the tournament with a 322 Sunday. USI, which was tied for second going into Sunday, finished 11 strokes behind first-place Missouri-St. Louis and four strokes behind second-place Lewis University.
Sophomore
Anastasia Carter and freshman
Allison Koester each tied for 15th to aid the Eagles. Carter shot 82 Sunday after opening the tournament with a team-best 79 Saturday, while Koester posted scores of 80 and 81 to conclude the event with a 36-hole score of 161.
Iowa Western Community College's Joana Yanez was the tournament medalist after shooting 77 Saturday and 74 Sunday for a two-day total of 151.
USI concludes the fall schedule October 28-29 when it competes in the University of Evansville Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate at Quail Crossing Golf Club in Boonville, Indiana.
