EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team concluded its three-day Florida trip with an 8-1 setback to No. 36 Florida Institute of Technology Tuesday in Melbourne, Florida. The Screaming Eagles began the trip Sunday with a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division I foe University of South Dakota before grabbing a regional victory with a 7-2 triumph over Saginaw Valley State University on Monday.

Sophomore Stephanie Smith, who recorded USI's only win against Florida Tech, went 2-1 at number five singles to lead the Eagles. She also teamed up with fellow classmate Morgan Coquerille for a win at number two doubles in USI's victory over Saginaw Valley State.

After suffering straight-set losses in all six singles matches against South Dakota, the Eagles returned the next day to earn wins at number two and three doubles against Saginaw Valley State. USI (5-4) won five of the six singles matches against the Cardinals, including straight-set victories at number four, five, and six singles, to earn the win.

Florida Tech, however, swept all three doubles matches Tuesday to take a 3-0 advantage heading into singles competition. The Panthers concluded the match by earning straight-set victories in five of the six singles matches.

USI returns to action Tuesday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Lindsey Wilson College in a men's and women's doubleheader at the USI Tennis Courts.
