LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team won a close match at Bellarmine University, 5-4, Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI rises to a 7-6 overall mark and 2-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 11-4, 1-1 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles took control of the match quickly by winning all two of the three doubles matches. Juniors
Ellena Stumpf and
Lindsey White started with an 8-6 victory at number one doubles, while sophomores
Stephanie Smith and
Morgan Coquerille got the second victory with a 9-7 win at number two doubles.
The Eagles completed the victory with wins at number two, three, and five singles. Stumpf and Smith posted straight set wins at three and five, respectively. Coquerille won in straight sets at number two singles, but needed a 7-1 tiebreaker in the first set before nailing down the win the second.
USI ends the weekend conference trip Saturday at 9 a.m. (CDT) against the Norse of Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of the USI Tennis Courts April 6 when they host the Flyers of Lewis University.
