OWENSBORO, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team started the 2011-12 GLVC action with an 8-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday morning in Owensboro, Kentucky. USI rises to a 6-6 overall mark and 1-0 in the GLVC, while KWC goes to 4-6, 0-1 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles took command of the match quickly by winning all three of the doubles matches. Sophomores
Stephanie Smith and
Morgan Coquerille opened the sweep with an 8-1 win at number two doubles. Junior
Logan Ackerman and sophomore
Shannon Joyce posted an 8-3 win at number three doubles, while juniors
Ellena Stumpf and
Lindsey White completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory at number one doubles.
In singles, USI won five of the six matches to complete the victory. Stumpf posted a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles, while Hoover posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set victory at number six to lead the way.
The Eagles continue GLVC action March 30 when they travel to Bellarmine University. They complete the three-match GVLC road swing March 31 at Northern Kentucky University.
