CINCINNATI, Ohio—University of Southern Indiana men's tennis sophomore Juan Quiroz posted a three-set win at number two singles to give the No. 36 Screaming Eagles a 5-4, upset-victory over No. 16 Drury University in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament late Friday night.

Quiroz, who was a combined 4-0 in doubles and singles play Friday, also had the match-clinching victory in USI's 5-0 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the opening round earlier in the day.

USI (14-6), the number two seed from the East Division, took a 2-1 lead over the Panthers of Drury after posting wins at number one and three doubles. The Eagles took a 3-1 lead when sophomore Ben Boesing opened singles play with a straight-set victory at number four singles.

The Panthers (15-3), the top seed from the West Division and the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region, evened the match with wins at number one and six singles, but senior Joseph Boesing put the Eagles up 4-3 with a come-from-behind win in three sets at number three singles.

After seeing the Panthers rally for a three-set win at number five singles, Quiroz rallied from a one-set deficit to earn the match-clinching victory at number two singles.

Earlier in the day, the Eagles swept doubles play before getting straight-set wins at number two and three singles to earn the 5-0 win over the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis, which entered the tournament as the third seed from the West Division. Missouri-St. Louis fell to 9-9 with the loss.

USI will play No. 35 Rockhurst University Saturday at 11 a.m. (CDT) for the GLVC Championship at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rockhurst, the number two seed from the West Division, defeated Northern Kentucky University, 5-2, in the semifinals Friday night. The Hawks defeated USI, 6-3, earlier in the year.
