EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The No. 34 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team went 1-1 on its spring break road trip, posting an 8-1 road win over Carson-Newman College Monday in Jefferson City, Tennessee, before suffering a tough 9-0 setback at No. 13 Columbus State University Tuesday in Columbus, Georgia.
Against Carson-Newman, USI captured wins in two of the three doubles matches before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Senior
Joseph Boesing and junior
Diego Gimenez each went 2-0 after combining for an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Boesing also posted a straight-set victory at number four singles, while Giminez grabbed a straight-set win at number one singles.
Sophomore
Rodrigo Flores also had a pair of wins as he captured a straight-set victory at number two singles after combining with fellow classmate
Kory Poland for an 8-2 win at number three doubles.
The Screaming Eagles (4-2), however, did not fare as well in their match with Columbus State. The Cougars defeated USI in all three doubles matches before handing the Eagles straight-set defeats in all six singles matches.
USI, which had its match with Lenoir-Rhyne University canceled due to rain on Sunday, returns to action March 18 at 6 p.m. when it travels to Lebanon, Illinois, to take on McKendree University.
