EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team snapped its six-match losing streak with a 5-4 win over Bellarmine University to start GLVC action Friday night at Tri-State Athletic Club. USI rises to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 11-4, 0-1 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles started slow, but led 2-1 after doubles action. Senior Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) and sophomore Lindsey White (Batesville, Indiana) stumbled at number one doubles, 8-6, to start the match.

USI sophomore Elllena Stumpf (Attendorn, Germany) and freshman Morgan Corquerille (Sellersburg, Indiana) put the Eagles on the board with an 8-6 win at number two doubles, while junior Logan Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) and freshman Stephanie Smith (Sellersburg, Indiana) gave USI a 2-1 lead with an 8-2 win at number three doubles.

The Eagles were able to clinch the victory by splitting the six singles matches. White, Stumpf, and freshman Alyssa Hoover (Greenwood, Indiana) sealed the GLVC win by winning at straight sets at number two, four, and six singles, respectively.

USI will not resume its five-match homestand April 1 at 2 p.m. when it hosts Saint Joseph's College for a GLVC match-up. The Eagles' match with Division I Western Kentucky University, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed due to the cold weather and will be rescheduled.
