NEW ALBANY, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat Indiana University-Southeast, 5-4, Saturday morning in its 2010-11 season-opener.
After grabbing an 8-5 victory at number one doubles, the Screaming Eagles (1-0) captured four of the six singles matches to pull out the come-from-behind win.
Sophomore
Lindsey White and
Michelle Girgenti, who combined for the win at number one doubles, each had straight-set victories at number one and two singles, respectively, to lead the Eagles.
Freshman
Morgan Coquerille also posted a straight-set victory at number three singles, while sophomore
Ellena Stumpf's 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at number five singles proved to be the difference-maker.
USI competes individually next weekend at the ITA Midwest Region championships in Midland, Michigan. The Eagles open their home slate September 29 against Brescia University.
