RENSSELAER, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team started a two-match road trip over Saint Joseph's College, 2-1, Friday night in Rensselaer, Indiana. USI raises its record to 3-1-0 and 1-1-0 in the GLVC, while SJC falls to 1-1-0, 1-1-0 GLVC.
The Pumas took an early 1-0 at 27:00 of the first half on a penalty kick and held that lead through halftime. The Screaming Eagles evened the score at the 46:00 mark of the second half when junior defender
Danny Pratte found the back of the net from near midfield for the unassisted goal and his first of the year.
The game winner came 19 minutes later when sophomore forward
Jeffrey McClure scored at the 65:00 mark. He was assisted on his first goal of the year by senior forward
Simon Rawnsley.
Between the posts, freshman goalkeeper Jeffrey Niedlinger won his second straight match for USI. Niedlinger allowed the lone goal and made four saves.
The Eagles led the match overall, out shooting the Pumas, 14-11, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.
The Eagles conclude their short, two-match road swing Sunday at the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds are 2-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 2-0, this evening. USI leads the all-time series, 18-7-0.
