EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team clinched the GLVC East Division title with a convincing 8-1 victory over Lewis University Friday afternoon at the USI Tennis Courts.

USI (16-3, 4-0 GLVC), which entered the weekend ranked third in the NCAA II Midwest Region rankings, wasted little time grabbing a 3-0 lead as it swept its opposition in doubles play. The Screaming Eagles went on to take five of the six singles matches in straight sets as they cruised to their fifth straight win.

Freshmen Ben Boesing and Juan Quiroz each went 2-0 on the day as did junior Joseph Boesing and sophomore Nathan Lattimer.

Quiroz and Ben Boesing combined for an 8-1 triumph at number two doubles before going onto straight set wins at number two and four singles, respectively.

Joseph Boesing teamed with sophomore Diego Gimenez for an 8-3 victory at number one doubles before notching a straight-set win at number three singles. Lattimer paired with fellow classmate Ben Roeser for an 8-4 win at number three doubles before winning in straight sets at number six singles.

Freshman Robert Nieters continued his solid rookie season, improving his singles mark to 15-1 with a straight-set win at number five singles.

The GLVC East Division title marks the Eagles' first regular-season crown since capturing both the regular-season and tournament titles in 2004-05.

USI concludes the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts the University of Indianapolis at the USI Tennis Courts.
