EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team posted 8-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan College to conclude the 2010 GLVC schedule Saturday morning at the USI Tennis Courts. USI rises to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the GLVC, while the Panthers fall to 9-7, 0-5 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles swept the three doubles matches to take control early. Senior Katie Jo Clagg and junior Michelle Girgenti put the Eagles on the board with an 8-3 win at number one, while senior Gretchen Cantwell and freshman Ellena Stumpf took a tight 9-7 decision at number two. Sophomore Jodie Petty and freshman Logan Ackerman rounded out the doubles victories with an 8-1 win at number three.
The Eagles swept through the singles matches with six straight-set wins. Clagg and Stumpf sealed the win for USI with straight-set victories at number three and four singles, respectively. Cantwell, Akerman, and Petty also won their singles matches.
USI concludes the 2009-10 regular season when it hosts the University of Evansville April 21 at the USI Tennis Courts.
