USI improves to 5-0 in the GLVC

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Univesity of Southern Indiana men's tennis team concluded the GLVC regular season schedule with a perfect 5-0 mark with an 8-1 win over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at the USI Tennis Courts. The Screaming Eagles also raised their overall record to 17-3, while UIndy goes to 7-9, 1-3 GLVC.

The perfect regular season by the Eagles is the first for the men's tennis team since 2001-02.

USI gained control of the match early with victories at number one and two doubles. Freshmen Ben Boesing and Juan Quiroz put USI on the scoreboard with an 8-1 victory at number two doubles, while junior Joseph Boesing and sophomore Diego Gimenez  put USI up 2-0 with a 9-7 win at number one doubles.

The Eagles almost swept the doubles matches, but sophomores Nathan Lattimer and Ben Roeser lost in a tiebreaker in number three dobules, 9-8 (10-8).

USI clinched the victory by sweeping the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Joseph Boesing led the way in singles play by losing just one point in a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three singles.

The Eagles open post-season play in two weeks when they start GLVC Tournament action on April 23-24.
