USI stumbles on the road at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team lost its 2009-10 GLVC opener, 5-4, at Bellarmine University Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI fell to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine rose to 8-2 overall, 1-0 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles fell behind early, dropping two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Logan Ackerman and freshman Lindsey White got USI on the scoreboard at number two doubles, posting an 8-6 win.

The Knights clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches in straight sets. The Eagles were able to take the final three singles contests to close the gap to a 5-4 final.

White got USI back on track in singles with a straight set win at number four singles. Freshman Ellena Stumpf and Ackerman rounded out the match with a pair of wins at number five and six singles, respectively. Ackerman won at number six in a third set tiebreaker.

USI resumes GLVC action next weekend when the Eagles travel to Northern Kentucky University on April 2 and the Saint Joseph's College on April 3.
